If you want to find the rarest Pokemon or level up quickly in Pokemon Go, one of the best ways to do that is to plan a hunting trip with friends and like-minded individuals. With the weekend coming up we thought it was time to provide some helpful advice on how to play the ultimate Pokemon Go hunting trip. Here you’ll find everything you need to plan and advertise the trip to make sure you get the most out of your hunt.

The Necessities

Before you even begin to advertise or tell your friends about your hunting trip, you need make sure you have everything to make the trip a success. That includes one (or more) external battery charger (you can find them as low at 10 dollars in most places), plenty of water and snacks (preferably healthy snacks) and maybe even a portable generator depending on how many people are going and how long you’ll be hunting. Battery life is the main reason you’d need to call it a night early, so be extra prepared.

Getting the Word Out

If you just want to invite your friends, that’s a fairly easy task. Text them or contact them on Facebook, however you normally talk to your friends, and tell them you want to have a Pokemon Go outing. There isn’t much to that. However, if you want to invite any and all Pokemon Go players in your area, it requires a bit more effort to get the word out.

The easiest way to inform a lot of people at once is to create a Facebook event page or even a Facebook group and title it based on your area. If you live in Los Angeles, you might title it something along the lines of “Pokemon Go Los Angeles Meet Up”. You can swap out “Meet Up” for “Hunting Party” or “Gathering” depending on what you’re comfortable with.

Generally speaking, a group is better than an event, because people will join the group and stay there. Then you can post any and all events within the group for anyone who’s available. Once you’ve established your group of event page, tell you friends to share it on their Facebooks so the word spreads.

You can also head over to the Pokemon Go Reddit to spread the word that way as well. It’s not quite as effective as having your friends spread the word on Facebook because the Sub Reddit moves pretty quickly. Unless a new topic is upvoted quite a bit, it won’t appear in the “Hot” section to be visible to move people.

There’s a lot that can go into planning a hunting trip, but hopefully these tips will help you get the ball rolling. Keep in mind we also have helpful tips on fast leveling and the best way to hatch an egg in Pokemon Go.

Preparation for the Hunt

When posting on Facebook or Reddit, it’s important to include the necessities people should bring. Tell everyone to pick up an extra charger for their phone batteries, as well as water and healthy snacks. The less you have to share the better off everyone will be, even if it’s just you and your friends.

For something different, find out how to find Pokemon using Google Maps. If not, hopefully you’ve done enough exploring to know where the best spots are. Plan a good time for people to go, but remember that you can’t please everyone. Find a time that works for the majority, even if it doesn’t work for everyone. You can always plan more hunting adventures.

Finally, you should have a plan of action. Know which PokeStops and gyms you’re going to frequent on your hunt. Have a set plan of travel so you know where you’re going and in what order you’re going to be stopping at each location. You don’t have to follow this plan super closely, but as long as you have a good idea of where you want to go you’ll be much better organized.

Pokemon Go by itself is a great app, but we’ve got some advice on the best mobile apps you should use while playing Pokemon Go. These apps will help you keep your phone on while also conserving battery life and make egg hatching just a little bit easier. You can certainly play Pokemon Go without all of these additional apps, but with these recommendations you’ll get even more out of your time playing the game. You can search for all of these apps in the Google Play store for Android phones.

Keep Screen On

This free app allows you to prevent your phone from going to sleep. While your battery consumption will increase (more on that in a moment), your GPS will never go off, which means you will be able to hatch eggs a little easier since every step that can count, will count. It’s a good idea to check on your phone periodically while it’s in your pocket, just to make sure you haven’t accidentally tapped something you shouldn’t have, but otherwise this is a great addition to your Pokemon Go experience.

DigiHud Speedometer

When playing Pokemno Go, if you go any faster than 6 mph it won’t count your Trainer as walking. This makes it difficult to hatch eggs while you’re riding a bike or using some other form of transportation that isn’t simply walking. DigiHud Speedometer allows for an overlay of a speedometer so you can quickly and accurately determine exactly how fast you’re going. Keep your speed under 6 mph to ensure every step counts.

GO Extender

With this app you can turn your screen off without your phone going to sleep and without the GPS turning off. The main issue with trying to hatch eggs in Pokemon Go is that leaving your screen on drains your battery. We’ve covered some options to help conserve your battery life, but with this app you can turn off the display on your phone while still keeping everything else on and active.

GoIV

While not an app available in the Play store, you can find it on Reddit and install the app no your phone. This app scans the screen when you’re playing Pokemon Go, and quickly checks the Individual Value (IV) of your Pokemon. Be sure to check out our guide on IV so you know exactly what you’re getting with this app, but it’s very helpful to know the IV of your Pokemon when you’re planning to attack a gym.

Bubble Strategy Power Leveling, Get Your Gym to Level 10, Massive XP

The Bubble strategy in Pokemon Go is a way to quickly max out your gym to level 10 and earn a large amount of experience points (XP) very fast. This is not a hack and doesn’t require any modification to your phone. The Bubble strategy simply takes advantage of a very specific match up in the game that allows you to quickly and easily earn a lot of XP while leveling up a gym.

We’ve already shown you some ways you can earn a lot of XP very quickly. However, the Bubble strategy allows you to do this even faster, but requires a bit more preparation to get started. Before we get started on how to perform the Bubble strategy, let’s quickly cover what you’ll need to make this work.

Level 1 Diglett
Level 1 Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag
A few Revives

As you can see, you don’t need all that much to make this strategy work. First off, you need to find a level 1 Diglett. It’s usually best to look in areas with low traffic. Maybe on the outskirts of town or just in areas where there aren’t a lot of people. You can find a level Diglett in other places, but low traffic locations seem to be the best.

Once you have your level 1 Diglett, you need to use Stardust and Candy to power it up one time and only one time. This is referred to as a level 1.5 Diglett. If your Diglett goes above 10 CP, you need to start over with another Diglett. If your Diglett does not have Scratch, you need to start over with another Diglett (Mudshot works too, but you won’t find it on freshly caught Digletts).

With your appropriate level 1.5 Diglett, you need to catch a Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag and power it up to 20 CP. Make sure whichever one you choose you have Bubble. Ideally you want your Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag to have the lowest defense Individual Value (IV) possible. It has to be less than seven points higher than the attack IV of your Diglett. If you’re unsure what IV is, we provide a detailed way to find it online, or a way you can check with the latest in-game update.

When you have a Diglett and Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag with the proper stats and attacks, you need to take over a gym so that you can add your Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag as a defender. Horsea is the easiest to use, followed by Krabby and then Poliwag. Train your Diglett at the gym, tapping the screen as quickly as possible to attack with Scratch (or Mudshot) as fast as you can.

If you attack fast enough (hitting with five Scratch attacks or four Mudshots) you will take down the defender without getting hit. In the worst case, your Diglett will faint and you’ll need to use a Revive, but once you get the hang of this you shouldn’t have to revive very often, if at all. When performed successfully you will earn 1,000 Prestige for the gym and 100 XP for yourself. You can do this repeatedly for an hour to earn over 30,000 XP (or 60,000 with a Lucky Egg active).

Here’s a quick snapshot of the process:

Power up a Diglett to level 1.5 with 10 CP.
Power up a Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag to 20 CP.
Take over a gym and set your Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag as a defender.
Rapidly attack with Scratch or Mudshot to take down the Horsea, Krabby or Poliwag before it can attack you at all.
Repeat the process to earn a ton of XP and level up a gym very fast.

To evolve and strengthen a Pokemon in Pokemon Go you need Stardust and Candy, and this guide will give you tips on some of the best ways to get Candy and Stardust in the game. One of the main aspects of Pokemon Go is to strengthen your Pokemon so you can win gym battles and secure more territory for your team of choice. Without Candy and Stardust your Pokmeon won’t be able to get stronger.

You will always get Candy and Stardust when you catch a wild Pokemon. While Candy is necessary to evolve a Pokemon, you need both Candy and Stardust in order to power up a Pokemon. Stardust is universal and can be used on any Pokemon, but Candy is specific to each Pokemon, making it more difficult to come by. There’s even Rare Candy used with Rare Pokemon, which can only be hatched via eggs or caught in the wild with enhanced Poke Balls.

First and foremost, you should try to catch as many Pokemon as possible. You are generally awarded three Candy for each Pokemon you catch. In addition, you can trade in any low CP Pokemon to the Professor to obtain even more Candy. Once you have a few high CP Pokemon, use a Lucky Egg for an XP bonus, then use Candy to evolve them as many times as you can.

It’s a good idea to keep track of how much Candy you have and how much it will take to evolve a Pokemon multiple times. Lower CP Pokemon should only be evolved once. If you waste Candy for a second evolution, the resulting Pokemon will still be fairly low in CP. If you wait until you catch a higher CP Pokemon, you can perform two evolutions and get a much better Pokemon as the end result.

Once you have a few powerful Pokemon it’s time to collect some Stardust. Look around your area for gyms that are controlled by your team (friendly gyms). Place your Pokemon at these friendly gyms and you’ll earn Stardust and PokeCoins on a daily basis (every 21 hours). You can also get Stardust and Candy from hatching your eggs, but once again, make sure you have a Lucky Egg active during this process so you gain the double XP bonus.

There are quite a few secrets or lesser known tips in Pokemon Go that a lot of people are unaware of. We’ve taken the liberty of compiling some of the most helpful secrets and tips into one article so you can get the most out of your Pokemon Go experience.

Completing Your Pokedex

If you’re looking to catch them all and complete your Pokedex, you’re going to have to plan a hunting trip, check Google Maps, and leave your immediate area of play. Pokemon are found all over the world, and they’re specifically grouped so that not all Pokemon appear in any one area. That doesn’t mean you’ll have to travel across the world to find them all, but you’ll at least need to travel to the next city or maybe play Pokemon Go on your next vacation or work trip.

Egg Hatching

We already covered some of the best ways to hatch your eggs, but most people don’t know that if you travel faster than 12 miles per hour (MPH) it won’t register distance on your egg. What that means is you have to walk (or securely tie your phone to a ceiling fan - not recommended) in order to hatch your eggs. Driving or even riding a bike won’t cut it in most cases.

Evolving Pokemon

Pay close attention to the white line that curves over your Pokmeon. As you level up that line will also grow in size, although you may not notice it at first. However, if you have one Pokemon with a CP of 100 taking up almost all of the white arc, and another Pokemon with a CP of 50 taking up a small portion of that white curve, it means the 50 CP Pokemon has a higher potential strength, even though the CP may be lower right now. As you level up, the 100 CP Pokemon will max out much lower than the 50 CP Pokemon.

As you level up each new Pokemon you fight and capture will be stronger and stronger. Due to this fact, if you spend a lot of candy to evolve a Pokemon you caught when you were only level 4, don’t bother using that same Pokemon for additional evolutions when you reach level 15. By that time you’ll find the same Pokemon with a much higher CP that will become much more powerful with multiple evolutions. In short, evolve your first few Pokemon once or twice, but don’t waste a third evolution on a lower CP Pokemon.

Weather Determines Available Pokemon

While it’s possible to find any Pokemon at any place or time, your chances are much higher if you know some information about the Pokemon you’re looking for. Water Pokemon will spawn more frequently when it’s raining, while dark Pokemon and ghost Pokemon are much more prevalent during the night time hours. Mix up your hunting times and you’ll find a larger variety of Pokemon.

Plan Your Hunting Cycles

Almost everything in Pokemon Go is on a set timer. You can collect only the rewards from gyms every 21 hours, but PokeStops can be accessed every 5 minutes. Find an area with several PokeStops in close proximity so you can make your rounds and circle back to the first PokeStop every five minutes to maximize your XP gain and rewards.

Leveling fast and gaining XP as fast as possible is extremely important in Pokemon Go. If you’ve been wandering around looking at Google Maps to find and catch Pokemon but are only coming across low level Pokemon, your player level is probably the biggest issue. Generally speaking, the higher your player level is, the better the Pokemon that you’ll find out in the wild and the more impressive the items are from the various Pokestops along the way including eggs that you can quickly hatch into Pokemon that are more rare. In addition to the strageies we've outlined below, there's a newly discovered strategy to gain XP quickly which involves using a Diglett.

Pokemon Spawns

Pokemon Combat Power (CP) is very important, and many of you are probably wondering why you’re only tracking Pokemon of 10 or even 50 CP. The higher your player level, the higher the CP of the Pokemon you find out in the wild. If you know you can find a certain Pokemon around the corner, when you first start playing that Pokemon may only be 15 CP. However, if you go back to that same area when you player level is much higher, you may find the same Pokemon at 150 CP instead.

Caught Pokemon

If your friend has a Bulbasaur with a much higher CP than your Bulbasaur, there are a few factors at play, but the more significant is your player level. Every time your player level increases, your Pokemon can be powered up accordingly. You’ll have to spend more Candy and Stardust, the max CP level increases as your player level gets higher. You may have also noticed that the Power Up button for your Pokemon is greyed out. That means you need to increase your player level before you can power up that Pokemon any further.

PokeStop Items

The loot you can obtain at PokeStops also varies based on your player level. You won’t find any healing items until your player level reaches at least 5. Likewise, better healing items appear at level 10, and Ultra Pokeballs don’t show up until level 20. It’s very important to continually check back at PokeStops as your player level increases to make sure you always have access to the best items available for your level.

Gaining XP

There are a wide variety of ways you can earn XP, including the brand new Bubble strategy using a Diglett. Knowing exactly how to earn XP will help you level up faster. Below is a list of all the ways you can earn XP, but that’s not all there is to know. Lucky Eggs will double your XP gain for 30 minutes. In addition, if you have a large amount of candy for a specific Pokemon that only needs a small amount for the first evolution, use a Lucky Egg, then evolve as many of those Pokemon as you have for an impressive boost of XP.

Using Pidgey is a great way to abuse the Lucky Egg XP gain. Every Pidgey you catch will give you three Candies. You also get one Candy for transferring a Pidgey to the Professor. So for every four Pidgey you catch, you can gain up to 1,000 XP with a Lucky Egg. Basically, get a ton of Candy for your Pidgey, catch as many of them as possible, then use a Lucky Egg and evolve as many of the Pidgey as you can. You will get 1,000 XP per evolution. This is one of the fastest ways to level up in Pokemon Go.

Another trick is going into a gym battle, defeating the first opponent, then running. When timed correctly you will still get XP from the battle and can immediately go back into the gym to battle once more. Repeat this process as long as you care to grind for XP and you'll get a decent amount of XP gain per hour, even if it feels a bit stale.

If you have some time, find an area with a few PokeStops in a short area. If you can hit three or four in a five minute period, that would be ideal. Move between these PokeStops, circling back every five minutes or so, catching all of the Pokemon you can find. This will help maximize your XP gain, and when you couple it with Candy and Lucky Eggs, you can get a ton of XP is a short period of time.

Once you’ve caught your pokémon, it’s time to get the pair of you powered up

It’s all well and good catching pokémon, but you need to have your trainer hit level five as soon as possible so that you can start training at gyms. You’ll also stumble across more powerful pokémon at higher levels, so don’t invest in any of the little cuties until you’ve started getting a decent team together.

There are a number of ways for your trainer to earn XP. Each level’s full XP requirement corresponds to the level number, so at 1000 XP, you finish level one and move onto level two, then 2000 XP later, you move onto level three which needs 3000 XP before you can hit level four and so on.

100 XP – Pokémon Caught

500 XP – New Pokémon

10 XP – Curve Ball

10 XP – Nice Throw

50 XP – Great Throw

100 XP – Excellent Throw

50 XP – Checking in at a Pokéstop

100 XP – Battling a Pokémon Trainer at a Gym

150 XP – Beating a Pokémon Trainer at a Gym

50 XP – Beat a Pokémon in training at a Gym

200 XP – Hatch a Pokémon

500 XP – Evolve a Pokémon

Using items like Incense and Lure Modules is a good way to boost the frequency of Pokémon popping up on the map. Walking around checking in Pokéstops is also a good way to get both XP and items, particularly as they refresh every five minutes.

And if you’re low on poké balls, don’t waste XP capturing duplicate Pokémon unless you’re particularly enamoured with their CP.

Hitting pokémon inside the capture ring at its smallest will earn you XP for skillful throws. Move the poké ball in a circle before you throw it, and release when it starts to sparkle to get a curve ball. The throw bonuses don’t seem to stack so focusing on precision is the best way to gain XP with throws.

You should hit level five in no time.

Pokémon

When deciding which Pokémon to level up, it’s best to choose the ones with the highest CP. To increase their CP, you need to power them up, and to power them up you need Stardust and Pokémon Candy for that particular variety of Pokémon.

Stardust can be used to power up any kind of Pokémon. You can collect it by capturing Pokémon and hatching eggs.

Pokémon candy is awarded for catching Pokémon, hatching eggs, and transferring Pokémon to the professor. You can’t get them back once you send them away, so if you’ve got a butt ton of Drowzee, get rid of the lower level ones to bump up the candy you need for powering up and evolution.

At the moment it seems that the end stats for your Pokémon will the same regardless of whether you power up to the max or evolve first, and the Pokémon’s size will have a bearing when battling other Pokémon with a similar CP. But if you’re keen on taking over all of the local gyms, CP should be your focus at the start. Because CP represents the Pokémon’s strength, a higher stat means its moves will be more powerful.

Evolving your Pokémon will also give its CP a significant bump. If you want to evolve as soon as possible, then catching the same species of Pokémon is what you should be aiming for, as you can hand them over to the professor for the candy you need to evolve them.

It’s worth noting that your trainer level will affect the available CP of your pokémon, so you may hit a wall with powering them up until your trainer level increases.

Rare Pokémon are subjective. If you live in an area brimming with Bellsprouts, you might wet your pants at the merest hint of a Zubat, while other players can’t send them to Professor Willow fast enough. If you’re struggling to find them, they’re rare.

Different species of Pokémon are found at different locations. Their appearance is based on time of day, the environment (near water, or grassy areas for example), and according to one Reddit user, areas of high cell usage in the Ingress app – Niantic’s last AR game.

In fact, you can use the Ingress app to zero in on a pokémon’s location. The XM generation in the app (areas of frequent cell activity) seems to be linked to pokémon locations, so if you’re planning a hunting trip, you might want to have both apps on the go to save time and maximise the number of pokémon you’ll catch while out and about. be warned that will drain your battery double-time though.

As well as taking a walk around your local area or popping into your local pub between the hours of noon and midnight to see which pokémon are passing through in a 12 hour cycle, it’s important to use Lure Modules and Incense, which will make a larger variety of pokémon appear. And don’t forget to use Razz Berries if a hard-to-get critter that you’ve had your eye on pops up.

Always make sure you incubate your eggs before you head out. Work on hatching those 5km and 10km eggs as a priority as they’re more likely to hold rare pokémon that aren’t necessarily found in your area.

Keep an eye on the bar in the bottom right corner of your screen as well. The silhouettes indicate the presence of nearby pokémon that you haven’t caught yet, so if you’re familiar with Who’s That Pokémon segment from the 90s, you’ll be well-equipped to spot the rarer ones to track down.

Other than these tips, work on getting your trainer level up. As it increases, so do your chances of finding new pokémon.

There are some trainers out there willing to break the rules by GPS spoofing, but there are safeguards in place to make sure you can’t reap the rewards of cheating and you’ll run the risk of a soft ban, so we’d advise against it.

The three Legendary Bird pokémon serve as the mascots for Teams Instinct, Mystic, and Valor, and we saw Mewtwo in a trailer for the game, but we’ve had no concrete information on which Legendaries are in the game and how we go about catching them.

NesstendoYT on YouTube has been rummaging around in the game’s files and found Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in there, as well as Ditto who doesn’t appear to have been spotted out in the wild yet.

Judging by the trailer and the Ingress app’s live events, it’s likely that Legendary pokémon will appear at special events in different countries with the teams competing in a similar way to the Ingress events.

If you haven’t reached level 5 and joined a gym yet, you should probably take each team’s Legendary into account, just in case it affects which one you’ll get later on in the game.

But for now, we’ll have to wait for more updates from Niantic.
